I`d saved the original lube from my 98 manual trans. When I`d drained it (after a couple thousand miles) I stored it in an empty Mobil 1 5 quart motor oil jug, which was probably a year or so. All of the break in metals/contanimants settled and solidified in the bottom,so I was able to distribute all 3 quarts into some empty Amsoil quarts, which are clear,so I can see the purity of the lube. It has the color and smell of a cross between Nissan MTF (75W85) and Pennzoil Synchromesh. I reinstalled it in my trans two days ago and it`s smoothed it out considerably. I`ll probably just leave it in indefinitely,as it`s vastly improved the shifting and bearing noise. Does anyone know what this trans lube is? Wonder if a VOA would confirm it`s identity? Is it some kind`ve "special" oil for these transmissions only, some kind`ve synchromesh lube,or maybe just Nissan 75W85 MTF?
